Jazz Trio

Biography
The Eastern Standard Jazz Trio, featuring Charles Frommer on saxophone, Steve Raleigh on guitar, and Tom Charlap on bass, brings together three New York musicians who have for years made their livings playing great jazz in the tri-state area. In the intimate trio setting of saxophone, guitar, and acoustic bass, they have created a perfect medium for making music which is as rewarding for them to play as it is enjoyable to hear. In it, they combine their vast and varied performing experience with their affinity and love for the styles and traditions of American Jazz to produce an attractive and musically interesting listening experience which their audiences never fail to appreciate.

Steve Raleigh, guitarist/composer/educator, has taught and performed extensively in the Tri-State area for the past 15 years and has shared the stage with such notables as Nick Brignola, Lynn Seaton, Evelyn Blakey, and Larry Campbell (The Bob Dylan Band). He has recorded several CD’s under his own name and has been featured and reviewed in many publications including Guitar World Magazine, Recording Magazine, Billboard, Rhythm & News, as well as many regional newspapers. George Fletcher of the Poughkeepsie Journal wrote “...Steve’s use of melodies and clean, classy rhythms ...is the stuff of the big boys and just plain on the mark... fiery guitaring ...terrific..”

Charles Frommer, saxophonist for the Eastern Standard trio, began playing professionally while still in high school in his hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. He moved to Boston to attend New England Conservatory, where he studied with Ran Blake, Joe Allard and Douglas Buys, and continued his career in New York, doing freelance club, recording, and theatrical work involving a wide variety of musical styles.

Tom Charlap is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with New York Philharmonic bassist Orin O’Brien. He has been a member of the Woody Herman orchestra and Dr. Billy Taylor’s Jazzmobile. Bassist Charlap recently played for both the Broadway production and subsequent national tour of Peter Pan, which was composed by his father, the late Moose Charlap.
